Hi everyone, my name is Anna Grassi and I'm here to talk to you about some topics regarding feminism, today we will tackle the topic of "women who fight".

First of all, let's start by talking about the true meaning of the word feminism, which is often misunderstood, that is, "movement for the demand for the economic, civil and political rights of women".

More precisely, the feminist aims not to attack men, but rather to bring women to their same level in terms of rights in this area.

Each of us can contribute to this fight, today in particular we will analyze two famous women linked to this cause, one from the past and one from the present: Emmeline Pankhurst and Emma Watson.

  1. Emmeline PankhurstEmmeline Pankhurst (1858-1928) was a well-known English suffragette who took part in the women's suffrage movement, a fight for the right to vote in public elections in the UK, and at the beginning she supported political parties and subsequently founded the Women's Social and Political Union. The cause she assisted triumphed in 1918, when Parliament voted on the Representation of the People Act, which admitted women's suffrage. Quoting a phrase by Emmeline "I would rather be a rebel than a slave" we understand how determined she was to change things in the feminist field and how much her strength helped many women to come forward. In my opinion Emmeline Pankhurst is an example of a woman who doesn't let anything or anyone hinder her, despite all the obstacles (those who opposed the suffragettes and even prison) she faced she never abandoned the other suffragettes and the cause.

  2. Emma Watson Emma Watson is known to the world mainly as an actress, but not many knows that she is a UN Goodwill Ambassador for Women and the voice of the HeforShe movement. Over the years she has held various speeches on political, economic and social equality between the two genders, which have made her a point of reference for the movement. Emma also extends the "invitation" to feminist collaboration to men, saying: "I want to take this opportunity to extend the invitation to men too. Gender equality is also your challenge." "I want men to take their responsibilities so that their daughters, sisters and mothers can be free from prejudice." In my opinion, Emma Watson is the classic example of a feminist to follow, an intelligent woman who knows what she wants to achieve regarding the cause, and who knows how important it is to continue fighting for women's rights in all countries of the world.

To conclude this article I would like to underline the strong impact that these women have on each of us and on society.

Emmeline Pankhurst fought and Emma Watson still fights for women's rights and both give us hope for gender equality and a better future for all women in the world. So my message is this: we must all take inspiration from these feminist figures and commit ourselves with all our strength to support the cause, even starting from small gestures.
