It’s undeniable that Emma Chamberlain epitomises cool-older-sister energy. She’s an observer, go-getter, non-conformist; someone you ultimately look up to. She’s just cool.

We are on Earth to connect with the people around us. The engagement of genuine conversation, the exchange of emotion, the sense of shared vulnerability and the trust we entail in others when conversing are what makes us human. As humans it is inevitable that we possess a mind that bubbles away with thoughts. Our strength blossoms from the detail that we are our own person— individuality that we cannot be deprived of. And from that thought came an idea, where functionality and originality became united. Fashion. Much later, in 1948, followed The Met Gala, and a couple of years later, a much needed Emma Chamberlain.

In 2021, Vogue did the pleasure of inviting Emma to undertake a series of red-carpet interviews at the Met Gala. What Emma brought to Vogue was a fresh, unfiltered image as she harnessed the ability to get celebrities out of their shells. Through these informal moments Emma Chamberlain shared with artists, media personalities and influencers alike, she radically shifted the ideation behind the camera. Traditionally, the camera denotes picture-perfect, can’t-mess-up moments. Without realisation, the presence of a camera results in us being more meticulous with our mannerisms. To be manifested on a screen is a scary concept for many: What will people think?, we ask ourselves. We are not— and cannot —be perfect. What truly captivates an audience is a “real” feel. Having a rawness to your authenticity makes you more human. So, for Emma to unleash an interviewee’s true self on the red carpet in front of millions of cameras is a wonder.

May 2024, the big night for the equally Big Apple. While all the famed personalities came together in the City of Dreams, the annual fundraiser for The Metropolitan Museum of Art was set into motion. Widely regarded as the event of the year, The Met is something you go big or go home for. Couture for the ages. Anxiety and exhilaration rushes through the air. Both first timers and regulars. No matter the circumstance, Emma’s face was certainly a friendly one to encounter. Alleviating potentially awkward scenarios, she instantaneously lifts the mood, and keeps the vibes flowing night-long. Making her online followers feel as though they are at The Met with Emma is her superpower.

Time after time, Emma Chamberlain’s interviews have swayed the internet; in 2023 with Doja Cat’s rendition of a feline, and of course, the flirtatious Jack Harlow. Her small talk of who are you wearing turns into connections on a much deeper level. As an audience we feel both the interviewer’s and interviewee’s presence. Sincere connections, with genuine energy.

Be unapologetically you, and find connection within imperfection.
